“One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for.”
- James Baldwin
I think of my gardens as filled with mystery, wonder and visions of loveliness. They serve as a refuge, an escape into the natural world. But they often fail me.
I’ve recorded fleeting glimpses of ephemeral beauty, which are frequently interrupted by unsettling intrusions. Many of the images in this series reflect depths of darkness, which are both projections of my own subconscious fears, and attempts to assert mastery over them. More often than not, the images seem to assert their mastery over me.
